Who we are

coea.com is operated by Building Officials and Inspectors Educational Association, Inc., doing business as Code Officials Educational Association (“COEA,” “we,” “us”), a Florida not-for-profit corporation and 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, 1126 S Federal Hwy, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316. What we collect

• Information you give us: name, email, phone number, employer, job title and mailing address when you join, renew, register for an event, buy a seminar package, sign up for emails or texts, or fill out a form.
• License information: license and certification types, numbers and expiration dates, if you add them in My Account.
• Course records: seminar attendance, course progress and completions.
• Content you submit: nominations, applications, job postings, photos and posts.
• Technical information: cookies and basic log data (such as IP address and browser type) used to keep you logged in, run the shopping cart and protect the site from spam and abuse.

Payments

Payments are processed by our payment processor. COEA does not receive or store your full card number.

How we use your information

• To run memberships, events, seminars and courses, and issue certificates.
• To report completed continuing-education hours to licensing boards and other credentialing organizations where COEA is the approved provider.
• To send meeting notices, newsletters, renewal reminders and other association news. You can unsubscribe from emails at any time using the link in each email.
• To answer your questions and keep the site secure.

Text messages (SMS)

If you opt in to text messages (for example by texting COEA to our toll-free number), we use your mobile number only to send the COEA messages you signed up for, such as meeting, seminar, renewal and event reminders. Message frequency varies, about 2 to 4 messages per month. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time, or HELP for help. Consent to receive texts is not a condition of membership or any purchase.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text-messaging opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties, except the text-messaging service provider that delivers our messages on our behalf.

Sharing

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only:

• With licensing boards and credentialing organizations when reporting your completed hours.
• With your department’s training coordinator, if your department bought your seminar package.
• With service providers that run the website, payments, email and text messaging for us, who may use it only to provide those services.
• When required by law.

Cookies

The site uses cookies to keep you logged in, remember your cart and preferences, and protect against spam. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies, but parts of the site (such as logging in and checkout) may not work without them.

How long we keep it

We keep account and membership information while your account is active, and course and continuing-education records for as long as licensing rules require. You can ask us to delete your account at any time, except information we must keep for legal, accounting or reporting purposes.

Your choices

• Update your information in My Account.
• Unsubscribe from emails using the link in any email; reply STOP to stop texts.
• Ask for a copy of your information, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing [email protected].

Children

The site is intended for adults working in or studying the building and construction field. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
